Things get crazy by the beach sometimes. We headed out for a late afternoon surf in the seldomly warm and prestine turquoise coloured sea, only to be stopped in our tracks by one of the Shark Spotters on duty, warning us to some possible shark activity due to a nearby swarm of fish, which some trek fishers were about to net. We went out anyway, but got called back to shore about 20 minutes later by the sound of the shark alarm. The fishermen started hauling in their catch and everyone on the beach participated in pulling in the net. Turned out they only caught some bait fish – sardines – and made the catch free for all. Needless to say there was a huge frenzy and everyone was digging in. We brought back a little bounty ourselves and had a delicious feast on grilled sardines smotherd in garlic butter.
